Seasonal Programs

Fall Sailing

The fall is a wonderful time to sail on the Chesapeake Bay, warm water, great winds, and multiple programs designed for our race teams.

  • Optimist: The fall optimist program will be run on Saturday and Sunday 9AM-4PM.  Additional Green Fleet or RWB Only practices or clinics may be designated.  Opti Teams will participate in STQ and the Optimist Pram Team Race Invitational.  Take advantage of fall sailing while both Coach Paton and Coach Carranza are here!

  • ILCA: 6 and 4.7 sailors looking to continue their singlehanded development may train on Sundays or after school with Coach Carranza. These sessions are to help sailors fine-tune their skills and prepare for the Cressy qualifier and trophy as well as Midwinters.

  • c420/i420 Class: Hampton Yacht Club is excited to host the 2024 c420 Atlantic Coast Championship October 4-6.  In preparation for the event, local c420 teams or those interested in competing in the class, HYC and the Hampton Yacht Club Foundation have teamed up to provide three Sundays (15, 22, 29) of coaching.  The HYC Foundation has four scholarships for local sailors that includes the cost of the three days of the clinic as well as covering the entry fee and coaching for the ACCs! HYC has four c420s available to local sailors for the clinic as well as the ACCs. The main purpose of this clinic is to focus on how to correctly sail the spinnaker and use the trapeze as well as a focus on boat handling and boat speed.

Cancellation Policy: No refund will be given if you cancel within 1 week of the start of the program or do not show up for one or multiple classes.

Requirements: Must have prior racing experience for Race Teams. Please contact the Sailing Director at sailingdirector@hamptonyc.com to see if your sailor qualifies.

*All Classes are subject to daylight but plan to go until the end of October, the Optis will expand their weekend practices once after school practices can no longer occur.
