Hampton Yacht Club is the premier yacht club on the southern Chesapeake Bay for sailboat racing featuring keelboats, one design, and junior competition. 

 

HYC offers several annual events, including for keelboats Southern Bay Race Week (largest regatta on the southern Chesapeake Bay), The 75th Anniversary running of the Down the Bay Race, Plantation Light, and the Middle Ground Light Race.  Four annual events are designated to make up the HYC One Design Series including the HYC Annual One Design Regatta which spans nearly a century.

 

Over the years Hampton Yacht Club has hosted many national, continental and world championship events. Some of these events include the J-111 Worlds, Ida Lewis Women’s US Sailing Championship, and four USODA Optimist National Championships. The 2025 yachting calendar brings a host of exciting premier One Design events including the Viper 640 North Americans, the Albacore Internationals, the Lightning Dixie Districts, the Sunfish Worlds Regional Qualifier, and the Hobie 33 National Championship. In 2026 the USODA Chesapeake Bay Championship will return to HYC.
