HYC is hosting Winter season training for any juniors interested in keeping up with their racing skills during the winter in the Optimist (Green and RWB), ILCA, and double-handed classes (c420, i420, RS Feva). This program is open to the public, members receive a discounted price. Juniors MUST have some racing experience and appropriate cold weather gear, either a dry suit or wet suit, to ensure warmth and safety. Please consider coming to the Gear Swap on November 17th at 6PM at the Brady Sailing Center or order cold weather gear through the HYC Chandlery by contacting the Sailing Director.
Junior sailing for Green Fleet, ILCA, and double-handed sailing occurs on various Sundays from November to the end of March coached by Sailing Director Maxwell Plarr, Coach Steven Sparkman, and Coach Brian Fox. Practices will focus on boat handling, boat speed, and racing strategy/tactics tailored for personalized development. This is a great program for any high school sailors looking to advance their skills for the spring season and learn more about the sport. For more information on specific training dates please seek the registration link below.
RWB Opti Winter Training will be run by Coach Santiago “Tino” Galan. Coach Galan has planned a rigorous training schedule of Saturday and Sunday from 9AM-4PM as well as some short after school opportunities during the week and holidays (MLK Day, President’s Day, Parent/Teacher Conference). This training is designed to increase and continue a high level of sailing with professional coaching in hopes to maximize the summer 2022 season potential. This program is billed monthly.
Each day the coaches will assess the combination of wind, air and water temperature to ensure it is safe enough for the juniors to practice on the water. In the unlikely event sailors can’t make it on the water a classroom session will be offered. Dry suits or proper thickness wetsuits may be required depending upon conditions. This will be announced well in advance.
