How early/late may I drop off/pick up my child?Although we love your sailors and want them to feel at home at the Brady Sailing Center we cannot offer supervision outside of normal class times. Please drop off your child no more than 10 minutes before the start of your child’s class time. If you are running late due to traffic, please call the Sailing Director so we can plan accordingly.
-
Is there a swim test required to participate in a class?Yes, being able to swim provides a comfort level in and around the water. We recommend that you learn how to swim prior to attending any HYC sailing class. Each child must be able to pass a short swim test consisting of swimming 50-100 yards and treading water for 3 minutes. All sailors will have the swim test conducted in their life jackets.
-
Is lunch provided for full-day camps?Lunch is provided by the yacht club for the Opti 1 program.
-
Do I have to be a member? No, you do not have to be a member of the yacht club to send your child to any of our programs. However, members and grandchildren of members will receive a discount. HYC also offers a Junior Membership! Junior membership is for those that love sailing and want to be on the water! All junior members receive member pricing discounts, can order at the restaurant, and purchase boat parts and apparel easily when needed.

What happens in the event of bad weather or rain?HYC always puts safety first but we will not cancel or offer refunds for inclement weather. All instructors are qualified to run classes that maximize training value based on the weather conditions. In the event of thunderstorms or windy conditions, land-based activities will take place. Under US Sailing, we wait 30 minutes after hearing the last thunder sound until we can start sailing again.
-
What should my child bring/wear?Every day, sailors must bring closed-toe shoes (no flip flops!), a US Coast Guard approved life-jacket with a whistle attached to it, face covering, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, a towel, a change of clothes, and weather appropriate clothing/bathing suit.
-
Where do I get sailing clothes? When it comes to sailing gear there are many brands to choose from, HYC recommends a local business, Rooster Sailing. Rooster sailing offers discounts to high school sailors and has the best selection of gear for a competitive price and great quality. Rooster Sailing gear can be ordered through the HYC apparel shop.
