Hampton Yacht Club is proud to announce

COLLABORATIVE EFFORT for Double Handed Sailing
Despite COVID attempting to quash all high school sports the Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association is able to press forward with hosting double handed competition with strict parameters to help prevent the spread of COVID. When the decision was made that a “high school” format was going to be held HYC coaches were approached by several teams to help aid in sailor development. This was a fantastic ask, but since HYC does not own a fleet of “high-school” style boats it presented the problem that a fleet would either need to be purchased or chartered.

The logical decision was to approach neighboring Youth Sailing Virginia. YSV provided the charter boats that would allow HYC coaches to push forward and a great venue. YSV is also a venue for VISA competition. Meaning that HYC coached teams are able to practice on the very waters that they will compete in for roughly half of their regattas.

Many HYC members have deep ties to Youth Sailing Virginia and the club is very pleased to have reached this agreement to meet the goals of both programs of putting kids on the water and growing the sport that we all love!
