James Allgeier 2020 Commonwealth Cup

Allgeier Wins!!!

27 Points separated HRRT Opti RWB first place finisher, James Allgeier, from his closest opponent, Jake Beaver of Severn Sailing Association. James, Jake, and third place finisher, Bo Angus of Fishing Bay Yacht Club, have all been at the top of the Opti RWB fleets so far this summer. However, HRRT member James Allgeier was on fire this weekend and was the rightful winner of the 2020 Commonwealth Cup, the State Championship of Virginia! The Commonwealth was hosted by Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. In the thirty-four boat fleet that consisted of the best from Fishing Bay, Annapolis Yacht Club, Carolina Yacht Club and many more, Allgeier’s worst finish was a sixth place in race 5 which became his drop. His scoreline consisted of four first place finishes and two seconds for a total of only 8 points in the seven race regatta. The consistency in the scoreline shows how well this competitor had the course dialed in.

HRRT Team members Parker Moore (5th), Leila Pfrang (6th), and Amelon Rule (7th) also made the top ten and sailed a great event. There was only a three point spread between them, so no doubt the racing was tight!

Tyler Brown and Ellie Hasbrouck 2020 Commonwealth Cup

Tyler Brown and Ellie Hasbrouck continued their campaign in the c420 class with new coach Nathan Smith. Nathan came to us from the national championship team of Christchurch School and has an extensive background in the c420 class. Tyler and Ellie finished a respectable 11th in the 25 boat fleet. Their greatest hurdle currently is starting. It’s hard to practice starts with a small team. If you have any high school sailors that want to improve their game tell them to join our 420 program, we will make them better!!!

Pfrang takes Second in Laser Radial at Commonwealth

Kyle Pfrang 2020 Commonwealth Cup
The laser fleet drew a large crowd to the Commonwealth Cup with forty boats on the start line. The over zealous fleet drew black flag starts and challenging conditions with tricky current. Kyle Pfrang has had great success so far this summer, every event he is gaining knowledge and sharpening some already deadly speed skills. This time, he came up just shy finishing second at the Commonwealth Cup to SSA sailor Robby Meek. Kyle was able to win two races and only five points separated the two. Pierce Brindley also sailed a very good event finishing 11th. Audrey Permenter sailed a great regatta Saturday, but unfortunately an OCS on Sunday pushed her back.

Fishing Bay sailor with close ties to HYC, Reed McCallister sailed a great event finishing in third place! Congrats Reed!
