HYC Junior Sailing 70th Anniversary

Please join Sailing Director Maxwell Plarr and the Coaching Staff at the Brady Sailing Center on Saturday, August 22nd for an Open House Celebration in honor of the 70th Anniversary of the Junior Program.

The Junior Program was established in 1950 and a junior advisory committee was formed and chaired by club secretary Edward B Rowe, Jr. The Penguin class was established as the first junior trainer and by 1952 Dr. Ted Steffen became the first full time sailing instructor. Since the early fifties the program has seen many advances and incredible talent from Gary Bodie to Steve Hunt to Chris Behm and many more. Successful HYC Juniors passed on their knowledge to the next generation and we look forward to continuing that legacy.

For its’ 70th summer in existence, the HYC Junior Program has a stellar group of students and coaches. Over 150 students have passed through the doors of the Brady Sailing Center from 5 year old Explorers to highly disciplined race team athletes. Even in the era of COVID with strict social distancing and mask wear the team of instructors were still able to provide a wonderful and safe experience for all. Join us on Saturday August 22nd to see the facilities. All proceeds will benefit the junior program and will go towards much needed coaching tools and upgrading coach boats.
